2022 State Budget: $66.8 Million for Annual Mandates, plus 2 others

On June 27, Governor Newsom signed the 2022 State Budget Act (SB 154 – Skinner).  In the more than $300 Billion State Legislation (which includes 29 additional trailer bills), the State of California has appropriated $66.8 million for reimbursement of SB 90/State-Mandated Costs to local agencies.

The breakdown of this funding are as follows:

  •  FY 2020-21 Annual Claims - $44.6 million

  • Municipal Storm Water & Urban Runoff (Los Angeles County Agencies) - $18.4 million

  • Vote by Mail Ballots: Prepaid Postage - $5.8 million

As required by Government Code section 17561.5, payments for the above claims must be made by the State Controller’s Office no later than August 15, 2022, otherwise interest will accrue at the PMIA/LAIF rate. The checks should arrive by the following week.
