Governor’s May Revise Keeps $154.2 Million for Mandates

On Friday, May 14, Governor Gavin Newsom released his May Revision to his proposed 2023 State Budget.  Despite the estimated deficit growing from $22.5 billion in January to $32 billion in May, the proposed $154.2 million in State-Mandated Cost payments has remained in the funding.

To avoid accrued interest, the State Controller’s Office must issue payment for FY 2021-22 Annual Claims no later than August 15, 2023. Payments for funded programs must be issued by October 15, 2023, in accordance with Government Code section 17561 (d).
